I have been a member of NAMI- National Alliance on Mental Illness for the last six years. If you are not familiar with NAMI, click this link to learn about the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI provides advocacy, education, support, and public awareness with programs like NAMI Basics, NAMI Provider, and their toll-free NAMI Helpline. Their programs and services are free and enable individuals and families affected by mental illness to build better lives.

I began my journey with NAMI as a passive observer who noticed their presence in my community. I began supporting their programs and services, then joined as a active member who eventually was elected to the board as Vice President of the Durham chapter. Currently, I remain active as a member, supporter and consultant for the current board members. I remain active with NAMI because I envision a world where all people affected by mental illness live healthy, full lives supported by a community free of stigma….a community that cares.

Why NAMI Walks?

NAMIWalks is NAMI’s annual fundraising event. Bringing together people of all ages and fitness levels to combat stigma, raise funds, and promote awareness of mental illness. Each NAMIWalks 5K event is a celebration of recovery. This year the walk will be virtual so you can join from anywhere in the world.

Join me by donating to NAMIWalks Your Way!! All proceeds go toward raising awareness and funds that support free, top-rated programs for those living with mental illness. Click this link to donate today.
