FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is your therapy style

My therapy style is empathic, yet results-driven and solution-focused in nature. In other words, I’ll work hard to understand and validate your struggle, but I’ll also challenge you to change what’s no longer working and to be the best version of ‘you’ you can be.

I know what it’s like to try to control your world through endless schedules and to-do lists, to power through, to live on auto-pilot. To ignore past trauma and negative cognitions that influence the way you respond to the world around you. My methods will help you in making complex decisions and facing difficult situations.

If you’re looking for therapy that allows you to stay stuck and talk endlessly, I’m probably not the right therapist for you. The work that we do will be challenging, and when done right compels us to look at our own doubts and insecurities. I’ll help you “look within” and work through challenges while recognizing how your unique strengths can help you move forward.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

For some, they may be going through a difficult phase or season in life. Transitioning jobs, locations, relationships, or roles in life can lead to stress, and it may be helpful to begin counseling to process through all the changes that are occurring. Others may have noticed patterns in their relationships with others that are getting in the way of their ability to have really healthy connections. These may be related to things that occurred during childhood, challenges related to family members, or difficulties communicating or navigating conflict.

Some individuals need assistance learning tools and skills to help them during times of depression or anxiety and may have struggled with mental health issues for years or just a short time. Still, others experienced deep wounds or traumatic events throughout their lives that are now making it hard to even function or carry on in everyday life.

There also are those who generally just want to learn to increase their understanding of themselves and their patterns, or who may be on a journey of spiritual discovery in life.

Our Health Insurance Policy

Health Insurance Policy

While health insurance can help offset the cost of therapy and make it more affordable, there can also be trade-offs in choice, flexibility, and confidentiality when utilizing your health insurance plan.

Most insurance companies will require that a diagnosis of a mental health condition be rendered and indicate that an illness must be present before they will agree to reimburse you.  Some conditions for which people seek counseling do not qualify for reimbursement. Insurance can limit the kind or duration of treatment you receive.

Research Triangle Counseling is in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Cigna. For those with other insurance plans, our clients are still able to gain reimbursement for some or all of our services through their out of network coverage. If this is the case, we are happy to provide you with monthly invoices to submit to your health coverage plan or employer for reimbursement and/or flex spending purposes at your request.

Please call your insurance carrier to determine what mental health benefits you have, if any. Check your coverage carefully and make sure you gain a clear understanding of your mental health/family therapy reimbursement benefits and how to utilize them before we begin our work together.

Helpful questions to ask your insurance provider include:

  • What are my mental health benefits?
  • Do I have out-of-network coverage?
  • How much does my insurance pay for an out-of-network provider?
  • What is the process for obtaining insurance reimbursement?
  • Is approval required from my primary care physician prior to receiving therapy services?
  • Do you cover both individual counseling and marriage and family therapy services?
  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
  • How many therapy sessions does my plan cover?
  • Do you only reimburse for certain diagnoses, procedure codes, and/or session lengths?
